Where did this Idea Come From? This whole idea comes from a problem that the CEO, Paul Rolfe, noticed when he worked as a clean energy advocate around the Missouri state capitol from 2010 to 2013. He didn't know anyone!
Basic things like where their office was or where their district was or who their staff person was. The Secretary of State's booklet was cumbersome and incomplete. It was hard to sort through, and you couldn't really take good notes in there. So Paul taught himself to code for the iPhone and made the first version of CapitolBuddy in a few months! In the beginning, we saw this as a replacement for "facebooks" (literally, the book of legislator's faces). But it's become more about making the entire experience of working at a state capitol, a little more efficient, a little easier to navigate, and a little more accessible. Now we envision lobbyists, legislators, advocates, and reporters using this app daily for their work. |
LRM: Legislator Relationship Management
You are in the business of creating change and legislators often times hold the keys to that change. So let's get to know them.
From non-profits to big corporations, all organizations use CRM (customer relationship management) practices to track and manage their donors, customers, and clients. Shouldn't you have a similar system for the most powerful people? An LRM is a central place to keep all touches, meetings, notes, and other custom info specific to you and your team members. CapitolBuddy is accomplishing this by giving you a starting data set with all the up-to-date information on state legislators. That data is always monitored for changes and updated immedately. Then you are given a customizeable note structure that lets you maintain those relationships and get richer and richer background info as you go. Never miss a meeting, forget a call, or misplace a note again. We're always looking for more examples of how our LRM makes capitol-life easier. Stay tuned for updates on the optimization of this system and new case-studies. About the TeamPaul takes great pride in the progress CapitolBuddy has made over it's young life. Paul grew up in the Kansas City area in Missouri and graduated in 2011 from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Journalism and a B.A. in Spanish. He's spent time in communications and fundraising at Renew Missouri as well as a stint as a grassroots organizer in Miami, Florida. The process of creating CapitolBuddy got Paul interested in making other apps like Good Volleyball just for fun. When he's not busy keeping legislator databases updated, you can find him doing improv and playing (actual) volleyball around Rhode Island.
